Life In China Transportation Rickshaw

Rickshaws and pedicabs offer an experience for tourists. They are found around big hotels and street corners in cozy seasons. Rickshaws provide a more relaxing way to explore the city. Prices are bargained with the driver and though prices are usually reasonable, one should still be careful--it is not unheard of for a new tourist pay 50 yuan for a 2 minute ride from the Friendship Store to the Subway. You should carry a map with you, know where you are going or ask a foreigner if you care about the price, if not then just go.

Hutong Tours
If you have not yet ridden in a rickshaw or simply want to explore more of Beijing, you might want to look into taking a Hutong Tour--a tour of Beijing's ancient alleyways. It opens your eyes to a whole new side of Beijing you've probably never seen before. And it's a fun ride too!

Beijing Rickshaw Men

A two-wheeled rickshaw drawn by a man used to be one of the main traffic means in Beijing during the early period of last century. The men could be seen toiling on every street in Beijing at that time.

Nowadays, the rickshaw tradition is being kept alive outside the east gate of Ditan Park. Managed by the Tangenyuan Lao Beijing restaurant, the rickshaws mainly available to serve restaurant guests. Rickshaw pullers sport traditional dress and hairstyles in the image of their forerunners.
