Can Beijing Clean-Up its Trouble Air?

Taking a subway train in Beijing, especially in rush hours when trains are packed with passengers, is an exposure to constant cacophony of people who try to clear their throats. Since the ventilation fans are always turned off to save the operation costs, the static of air inside a car, thickened by the unwelcome human emission, is filled with a sense of horror. There is nowhere to hide as long as you ride.



Miandi--No Ifs and Buts

In striving to rid the city of air pollution, the Beijing Municipal Government has decided to ban "miandi" - those mini-vehicles painted in yellow which are used as taxis - that operate in the city and have them destroyed.
