p19011.jpg (30526 bytes)Carding car racing is taking off in Beijing as the capital's own boy racers get into the sport that has swept the world. Beijing's first carding car race was held over four legs in July and August, sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Government and Beijing Automobile Sports Association.

Competitors were of all age levels, with the youngest only 8 years old. The only two foreigner competitors, Jervais Lavoie from Canada and Y. Chiba from Japan, won the championship on behalf of OASIS H.N.S.F. Co. Ltd.

"I like the sport. When I throw myself into it, I forget everything. It's the best way to relax after a nervous working day," said Lavoie.

Chiba started racing in university and said he was very excited to find itp1902.jpg (15318 bytes) available in Beijing. The Andi Carding Car Club, which hosted the second leg, boasts a racetrack 1,100 meters long and eight meters wide, according to Swiss standards.

Speeds can reach 120 to 220 kilometers per hour according to engine capacity: 50cc, 80cc, 100cc and 125cc.

The first leg was held at Biaocheng Carding Car Club, while the third and fourth were at Zhuangzhou and Jiabin carding car clubs.
