Life In China Food Restaurant Reviews: Dynasty Restaurant

Dynasty Restaurant

Every Saturday and Sunday night, the renowned Dynasty Cantonese Restaurant in the Jing Guang New World Hotel brings Hong Kong food fashion to Beijing with the trendy "All You Can Eat" dinner. Diners have the freedom of choosing whatever they like from a buffet at a set price, but don't have to worry about serving themselves.

For a worthy 188 yuan per person, eat as much as you can of more than 40 Cantonese dishes such as prawn salad and sauted beef. Ordering and service are no different from a formal dinner.

The price also includes a glass of table wine or fresh watermelon juice. And don't miss the Jing Guang's version of the famous Buddha jumping over the wall.

Besides its excellent taste, this dish is also a good tonic in winter. Chinese medicine says it functions to build up vital energy and nourish the blood.

There are many stories of the origins of this royal dish. One claims that a Qing Dynasty official successfully feasted Agriculture Minister Zhou Lian at his family banquet with an early version of the dish. Zhou was so impressed that he sent his chef Zheng Chunfa to learn how to make it. Later, Zheng opened a restaurant specializing in preparing banquets for high officials, with Buddha jumping over the wall as its top attraction.
