Do You Know..... The word "CHINA" originated from a name of Chinese town. In 18th century, Europeans used to Chinese porcelain very much, and their favorites were that came from Chang Nan Town (now it's named Jingde Zhen , a city of Jiang Xi province). They used "China" to remember the porcelain and the Chang Nan Town. As time passes by, people forget the original meaning of "China", and make it the name of porcelain, and the country products these porcelain. This is the First Theory . The Second Theory is the name of "China" originate from "Qin" dynasty, which was considered the first Chinese empire. "Qin" could be "Chin"..and the English just name the country "China".It has been said that without Qinshihuang (1st emperor of China and ruler of Qin dynasty), there would be no China today. Third Theory-The name China comes from "an ancient" Sanskrit name "Cina" ( means the regions to the east). The Sanskrit name Cina for China could have been derived from the small state of that name in Chan-si in the northwest of China, which flourished in the fourth century B.C.The Sanskrit word Cin, for China, was later brought back to China with Buddhist literature. |
