Wade the Water in Summer

What do you do to beat the heat of Beijing's hot summer days and nights? Maybe making a big splash is your idea of a cool solution. If so, head for any of the area's naturally beautiful scenic spots, or one of its man-made water wonders.

Beijing Ecological Tour Choices in Summer

Beijing Tourism Administration recommends an exhaustive and exhausting range of exciting tourism activities for all ages, shapes and sizes. Following are some suggested tour choices.

Beijing by the Beach

The quickening sets in around July. Suddenly all around the city, there's less time, less energy, less clothing. Tempers fray, air conditioners groan and insects nibble private parts. Enough already. Broad sun-stoned beaches. White heat. Scorched yellow palms. Bamboo huts, swaying hammocks, drowsy, long, hot summer days. Days you have held, days you have lost, days that outgrow, like daughters, our harboring arms. Pack your bags. We're going on a summer holiday!

Beat the Heat in Chengde

Weekend getaways from the big city are one of the pleasures of a hot Beijing summer, and Chengde's cool weather and a less frantic environment are a pleasant combination.

Come for Lotus Fair-- to See and to Smell

Colored lanterns and lotus flowers, both symbols of peace, luck and happiness, will take on added beauty as the Beijing Beihai and Jingshan Park Managing Bureau and the Chengdu Lantern Fairs Office cooperate to hold an art show of large Chengdu colored lanterns and Jingshan lotus this summer, from July 15 to August 31, in Jingshan Park.

The history of Chengdu colored lanterns dates back 2,000 years to the Han Dynasty, when Chinese people liked to dress up and stroll the midsummer nights, savoring the twin delights of the exquisitely made lanterns and the fragrance of the lotus in bloom.

The World of Water

Beijing has been in the midst of a heat wave since the beginning of June. So what can you do to beat the heat of Beijing's hot summer days and nights? Beijing This Month offers a menu of chilled delights, hoping that you can enjoy the season.

Lakeview Waterpark

With about 100,000 square meters of pools, slides, inner tube rides, or restaurants, shops, drink stalls, Lakeview Waterpark is one of the largest water theme parks in China.
