Weekend getaways are an ideal breath of fresh air for weary city dwellers. Most suburban districts are linked with Beijing by expressways, but tourism remains limited. Each month, we examine one of Beijing outer districts and offer suggestions. This month, we focus on Changping.

Beijing This Month tour team explored the north suburbs of the city, where Changping County is famous for its trees and water. Fifty percent of this area is covered with Chinese pine, cypress and gingko.

The Dragon Pine, honored as the king of trees in Beijing, is seated in the valley of the county. Changping is regarded as the "County of Water" with Ming Tomb.
